Willie Mount

A lake Charles native, Willie Landry Mount is proud to call Southwest Louisiana home. She is a graduate of Lake Charles High School and McNeese State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In 2016 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane letters by McNeese State University. A recipient of both the Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the McNeese Alumni Association as well has been inducted into the College of Business Hall of Fame.
Willie worked as a licensed real estate agent for seven years before she started a successful small business, which she owned and operated for four years in lake Charles.
In 1993, Willie was elected the first female Mayor of lake Charles. After serving over six years as Mayor, Willie became the first woman elected as a Louisiana State Senator from District 27 in 1999. She served three terms in the Senate, where she held a variety of leadership roles, including chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee, Chairman of Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee and Vice-Chair of the Education Committee.
Willie has received distinguished awards from numerous community organizations, including the National Association of Social Workers, the Kiwanis Club and the NAACP. Willie was honored as a Pinnacle light of Hope recipient from Family and Youth, received the Jack V Doland Award from Women's Commission of SWLA and the Louisiana Community leader of the Year from Cenikor Foundation and 2021 Civic Service Award from the Chamber of Southwest Louisiana. She is - and has always been - active in a variety of civic and community betterment projects.
Willie currently serves on the following boards: Library Board of Control for the Calcasieu Parish Public Library, Lakeside Bank Board, Lake Charles Country Club Board, Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors, Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana Board, Cenikor Foundation Board, McNeese State University Foundation, Louisiana Arts and Humanities Board, and Public Affairs Research Board.
Willie has embraced leadership roles as the presiding Chair of the Library Board, President of the Boy Scouts of America - Calcasieu Area Council, and Chair of the Convention and Visitors Board.
Ms. Mount was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards on January 10, 2014, and her service end date is July 01, 2027. She represents the third congressional district, as required by statute.
Mr. Mount served as Chairwoman of the Board from July 2022 through July 2024.
