This is the first issue of the 2017-18 Skillswatch Newsletter. Skillswatch issues will provide vital information to Instructors, Chapter Advisors, and College Administrators regarding SkillsUSA activities. If you have not been involved with SkillsUSA in the past please consider becoming an active member. SkillsUSA empowers students to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens. It enhances the development of personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics. The SkillsUSA experience offers many benefits to Advisors and students and provides an opportunity for students to compete at the state and national levels. The Skillswatch newsletters will also be archived on the SkillsUSA Louisiana Postsecondary website so you can view them at your convenience. The link will be provided as soon as the setup is completed. Enrollment began August 1st Deadline for membership enrollment is March 1, 2018. The SkillsUSA registration site is officially open for the new school year. - 2017-18 SkillsUSA Championships Technical Standards. The latest edition will be available by Oct. 1. The official competition guide for the SkillsUSA Championships contains rules for all national competitive events, including an overview, lists of technical skills and knowledge required, clothing requirements, eligibility and equipment lists. Note: Updates are located online: skillsusa.org/competitions/skillsusa-championships/contest-updates/
- Career Essentials: Foundations. This complete curriculum includes 29 lesson plans that support the SkillsUSA Framework and prepare students for workplace success. Career Essentials: Foundations is the first building block in the suite of products offered through the SkillsUSA Career Essentials.
SkillsUSA professional members receive these materials when they submit membership along with a valid email address. Technical Standards and other materials are provided through a digital delivery system.

Membership Students enrolled in a coherent sequence of courses or career major that prepares the student for further education and/or employment related to trade, industrial, technology and health occupations and is earning credit toward a diploma/certificate or its equivalent. Competition (National) College/postsecondary contestants must be earning credit toward a postsecondary degree/certificate during the school year immediately preceding the National Leadership and Skills Conference. Become a Technical Lead
A "Technical Lead" may be an instructor, an industry professional, or other knowledgeable person that is responsible for designing (or adapting) a test for the state competition. Technical Leads are also responsible for arranging for contest judges, contest orientation, and compiling and reporting scores.
